We were all excited to hear from Elder Seawell on Christmas. He really is loving his mission and seems very happy. He related to us a few stories, some spiritual experiences he has had teaching, and some crazy mishaps that have happened to him on his bike.
I will share his bike story:
My companion and I were heading out to go to an appointment and my senior companion wanted to take a short cut through a big open field. I wanted to stay on the road seeing how the snow was as deep as my knees and knew I couldn't ride my bike through the snowy field. Elder Thompson said we would just carry our bikes to the other side of the field. I was reluctant but went ahead with my companion. We went through the snow until we came upon a creek. My companion threw his bike over the running water into the snowy bank on the other side. So I decided to do the same, only my throw was perfect. My bike landed perfectly on it's wheels and rolled back down the bank into the freezing cold water, upside down with the bike seat and handlebars in the water. I retrieved my bike as my companion laughed! We went to our appointment and parked our bikes outside. When it was time to go home, we went to go get on our bikes and ride them home, but my bike was frozen solid! My gears, my brakes, my tires, everything had ice on them. I was not able to ride my bike. We called some members who came and got us and took us and my bikes home to thaw.
He is keeping busy with several different people he is teaching. He said he does fine as long as he is busy. It is the times when he is in the shower or when he is studying that his mind thinks of home. He said the ward members are really great and are feeding him well. The church building is right by the soon to be Fort Collins Temple. They should be starting construction on that soon. He is getting use to the snow but thinks he has forgotten what grass looks like! :)
